Class Descriptions

▲ Kundalini Yoga ▲

Kundalini yoga is the yoga of awareness. In literal translation, Kundalini means "the coil in the hair of the beloved". Symbolically, Kundalini equates to coiled up inner awareness. Kundalini yoga is an access point for unearthing ones inner awareness and latent spiritual potential.  Kundalini energy resides coiled up at the base of the spine. Through deep work and dedicated practice, Kundalini energy is stimulated and moves up the spine, activating each energy centre or chakra along its path. As Kundalini rises, so does the energy of full consciousness.

What to Expect in a Kundalini Class

  • Classes are 75 minutes in length.

  • Mantra is an integral part of every Kundalini class (a mantra is a sacred utterance, a word or group of words in believed by practitioners to have psychological and spiritual powers, and induce an altered state of consciousness)

  • There is a great deal of movement. In Kundalini, you are practicing “actions” rather than “poses”

  • Resting pose, or Savasana (which traditionally concludes the practice in other styles of yoga) is not significant of the end of class in a Kundalini class.

  • Fast paced and fiery

  • Modifications to poses will be available

  • No physical assists will be offered

☼☽ Hatha Yoga ☾☀

Hatha is the balancing of polarities. Two opposite and opposing forces are always at play; strength and flexibility, yin and yang, light and darkness, steadiness and ease. "Ha" represents sun and "Tha" reflects moon. Hatha yoga is the process of finding balance through the physical body. Most often in the West, Hatha classes are characterized as being asana-based (physical pose-based), offer a slower paced transition between poses, and a greater length of time in each pose to imprint the feeling of each shape in the body's awareness and experience. Hatha yoga aligns and soothes the body, mind, and spirit in preparation for deep meditation.

The Feeling Sensing and Restoring Sense of Self class places emphasis on the felt sensations participants experience while moving through their practice, not on achieving a particular expression of a pose. This turns the objective and orientation of the class toward the internal experience of the participant.

Classes employ open, invitational language with modifications. These qualities support self empowerment for the individual. By focusing on the felt sense of the body to inform choice-making, participants are given the appropriate tools to restore their connection of mind and body and cultivate a sense of agency.

What to Expect in a Hatha Class

  • 60 minute classes

  • The class focuses on moving through a series of “poses” at a gentle, relaxed pace

  • Resting pose, or Savasana, concludes the class

  • Physical assists may be offered upon consent

  • Modifications will be widely available (please inform the instructor on any mobility issues or past injuries that you have in order to support the types of modifications that the instructor offers)

  • Everything the instructor offers is invitation-based; please listen to your body before the instructions being given

⋰ Yoga Nidra ⋱

Yoga Nidra, also referred to as yogic sleep, presumes sleep and awareness can and must co-exist. In order for this co-existence to occur, one must enter a transcendent state. This transcendent state is the only state that reveals the true nature of self and the universe.

What to Expect in a Yoga Nidra Class

  • 60 minutes in length

  • Classes begin with very light movement and/or a series of breathing exercises

  • The majority of the class will be spent in resting pose, Savasana, while the instructor leads a guided meditation

  • There are often gong sounds incorporated into the Nidra practice

  • It is recommended that participants bring blankets, cushions, and comforting items, and wear comfortable clothing

  • No physical assists will be offered

Meditation & Sound Journey with Taylor & Shuvanjan

Screen Shot 2018-07-04 at 9.37.22 PM.png

Self & the Universe: A Meditation & Sound Journey is experiential and intuitive in nature, and is intended to be a soulful unearthing of the subliminal aspects of self as well as shedding light on the parallels found between the individual self and the macrocosm. This 75 minute session combines auditory compilations, the sacred sound of gongs, and guided meditation (yoga Nidra).

We will begin by arriving within ourselves through a Yoga Nidra practice. Yoga Nidra seeks to access a transcendent state that reveals the true nature of self and the universe.

Following the Nidra, auditory compilations will be introduced, interweaving sounds of anthropological functions to maintain the focus within, as well as biomimicry found in nature and our built environment; thereby subtly bringing awareness to the rhythmic parallels between internal and external.

Gongs will be worked into the final portion of the session. Gongs are a portal, linking the finite and the infinite experience of the self. As Yogi Bhajan said, “The Gong is the first and last instrument for the human mind. There is only one thing that can supersede and command the human mind, the sound of the Gong. It is the first sound in the universe, the sound that created this universe.”

ON THE 13th:
Join Taylor Alexandra Milne (Primordial Yoga) and Ashley Boone for a special evening, welcoming YOU to our shared community studio.

Spend 60 minutes moving in a vinyasa-style yoga practice with Ashley (welcome to beginners and those able to get up and down from the floor easily). Then Taylor takes us through a guided sound bath using earth, wind, and moon gongs to settle our bodies into deep rest.

This is a FREE event with the intention of building community and create connection!

No registration required. Please bring a yoga mat if you have one and we also have a few to use for free.

ON THE 20th:
Go deep & practice release with this Community Yoga Class: Yin & Gong Bath

With Yin, we will take our time by holding long passive postures, allowing our body to be more effortless (oftentimes, this can be more of a mental struggle to allow ourselves to let go than a physical challenge).

We will end the session with a gong bath. Gong is especially beneficial for those who have never meditated and have difficulty finding stillness. The sound immersion of the gongs allows you to physically feel the vibrations as they reach and reset each cell in the body, promoting healing and release .

Give yourself permission to rest and let go - come join us!

Reiki &kundalini by the sea

62345818_663673897392987_8234414147178070016_n.png

Join Mariah (The Reiki Eye) and Taylor (Primordial Yoga) for a 75 minute Kundalini and Reiki session by the sea!

We are going to raise our vibrations and strengthen the nervous system in order to work through the energetic blocks that inhibit us from accessing our higher selves with this fusion of Kundalini and Reiki.

The power of Kundalini Yoga techniques will enable us to actively work through energetic blocks that have built up and made a home within each of us. The "blocks" that we feel are actually trauma that has been stored in the body. With Kundalini, we are not attaching a story to what we feel, rather, we are noticing it and giving it a conduit (Kundalini Yoga) to clear the body.

“trauma is not in the event itself; rather, trauma resides in the nervous system” and affects the body as well as emotions, mind, spirit, and our capacity for relationships.
-Peter Levine

And how does Reiki fit in to the practice? Reiki is the transfer of intentional healing energy. This energy is pulled from the universal energy that surrounds us. Reiki Practitioners are able to channel this energy more potently in their body to help themselves heal as well as others. Reiki works with different systems such as the chakra system and the meridian system. Reiki works as an intuitive tool that helps to clear the “blocks and/or fix“leaks” of energy in body. A block can be emotional, mental, spiritual and or physical. Reiki energy work will be interwoven throughout the entire practice in order to facilitate greater healing for all participants as they do their own energy work.

No registration required.

TIME: 3 - 4:15pm

LOCATION: Point Pleasant Park (waterfront)

BYO: Yoga mat, bare feet, water bottle, anything else you desire for comfort, and an open mind.

Gong Bath

The gong is a portal, linking the finite and the infinite experience of the self. For anyone who has had the opportunity to be bathed in the vibrations of gong, they know that the sound waves emitted from the gong can be registered on a physical level. Gong goes deep to work on the mental, emotional and spiritual bodies as well.

The gong is self-revealing, as it works to purify and quiet the mind by cutting through linear thought patterns and removing veils from the subconscious mind. Evoking neutrality, gong
helps turn the mind to zero, a state of stillness where innate
wisdom can be accessed.

“The gong is very simple. It is an inter-vibratory system. It is the sound of Creativity itself. The gong is nothing more, nothing less. One who plays the gong plays the universe. The gong is not an ordinary thing to play. Out of it came all music, all sounds, and all words. The sound of the gong is the nucleus of the World.”

-Yogi Bhajan

Gong bathes occur weekly. Please wear comfy, loose-fitting clothing and bring any comforting items to support deep relaxation, such as blankets and cushions. The session will begin with some light movement and breath work to prepare for a long Savasana (resting), during which time the gongs will be played.

Space is limited in Humble Beginnings Studio, so please register in advance or arrive early to ensure your spot!

Sadhana

Once a month, Primordial hosts a community Sadhana.

There is nothing more moving than the power of togetherness.

Sadhana means spiritual practice and is meant to be undertaken on a consistent basis. The greater your commitment to this daily practice, the more clear your own consciousness will be.

Community Sadhana is held about two and a half hours before sunrises. The earlier the practice, the more still and quiet the mind. This allows the energy you put into your Sadhana to have the greatest effect.

“Immerse yourself in the joy of victory that comes from starting each day with a powerful sadhana and every challenge becomes opportunity.”

-Sadhana Guidelines

Visit the Class Schedule to find out when the next Sadhana is being held.

Free to Primordial members, $12.00 ($13.80) for non-members and $10.00 ($11.50) for non-member students and seniors.

* Please register in advance. *
